Can nasal strips improve athletic performance?
Research is consistent on this, and it is not what most marketing claims. Controlled studies find no significant change in VO2max, heart rate, or effort during exercise for athletes with normal nasal breathing. What nasal strips reliably do is reduce nasal airflow resistance, which shows up as easier perceived breathing, not faster times.

The strongest evidence for a performance benefit is in athletes with a narrow or obstructed nasal airway, from a deviated septum, allergies, or naturally tight nasal passages. For athletes with normal nasal breathing, controlled studies consistently find easier perceived breathing but no measurable change in VO2max, heart rate, or race times.
